53 candidates will contest the January 2023 elections

Fifty-three (53) candidates have been duly nominated to contest the January 18, 2023 elections, according to the Antigua Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC).

Public Relations Officer, Elisa Graham said 17 candidates were nominated for the Antigua Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP); 16 for the United Progressive Party (UPP); and 16 for the Democratic National Alliance (DNA). Trevor Walker was nominated for the Barbuda People Movement (BPM).

In addition, there were three independent candidates namely:

  • Anderson Carty – St John’s Rural West
  • Gail Pero-Weston – St John’s Rural South
  • Asot Michael – St Peter

Compared to the last general election in 2018, the DNA increased its list of candidates by three people. There was only one independent candidate in 2018 as opposed to three candidates for 2023.

However, the total list of candidates was also 53 that year.
