One man has been confirmed dead and others injured, following a vehicular accident in Herberts early Tuesday night. The man died shortly after being pinned underneath a truck which was used to distribute ham and turkey, a custom nearing Christmas time in Antigua.

The police have not issued any official statement on the man’s passing and he was not yet been identified to the public.

UPDATE: Police have named the victim as 39-year-old Shawn Jones of Green Bay.

Jones was driving a truck which was distributing ham and turkey throughout the St John’s City Consistency Branch, when the truck overturned on him.

The allegations are that Shawn was driving a white Daihatsu Delta Motor Truck from North to South on a by-road in Herberts when the vehicle began skidding while travelling up a hill. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which eventually caused it to flip and land on him.

Fire officers from St. Johns Fire Station arrived at the scene and used the Jaws of Life to free his body from under the truck. Jones sustained injuries to his chest and head and was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:06 pm.

Three passengers were also transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center complaining of pain and were treated and discharged. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Tuesday, 17 December.
