The recent tragic death of parliamentarian Asot Michael has prompted authorities in Antigua to seek external assistance in solving several high-profile unsolved murders. Scotland Yard, renowned for its expertise in complex investigations, will assist Antiguan authorities in probing Michael’s death along with two other recent cases involving young teenage girls.

During a Cabinet meeting this morning, Lionel Hurst, Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office, confirmed that UK police would support local efforts in investigating the murder of Asot Michael. In addition, Scotland Yard will also examine the cases of 17-year-old Yenifer Bridge and 15-year-old Achazia James, two other recent victims whose tragic deaths have cast a shadow over the island.

Bridge’s body was discovered on June 28 in the John Hughes area. Less than two months later, on August 18, 15-year-old Achazia James was brutally murdered. Her body was found at Runaway Beach. These murders form part of a concerning rise in violent crime, with Antigua recording 11 homicides so far this year. 

Meanwhile, the government has announced an official funeral to honour MP Asot Michael, who was found dead in his home on Monday morning.
