The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) is leading an urgent search and rescue operation for the fishing vessel FV MOYA, which failed to return to port as scheduled on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

The 30-foot vessel, carrying three fishermen—Mathias Greenaway, Glenmore Matthew, and Clancy John—departed Market Wharf at approximately 1:00 PM on Friday, February 21, and was expected back by 8:00 AM the following day. When no contact was made, the ABDF Coast Guard initiated a search operation around 2:00 PM on Saturday.

Search efforts have been hindered by rough seas, as a high surf advisory has been in effect for Antigua and Barbuda since Friday. Due to the challenging conditions and the vessel’s prolonged absence, authorities have escalated the situation to the distress phase.

The Coast Guard has intensified operations, enlisting support from multiple agencies, including the ABDF Air Wing, the Regional Security System (RSS), the Antigua Fisheries Department, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Fort-de-France, Martinique, the St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard, and the Montserrat Marine Police Unit. From Saturday through Monday, February 24, search teams have conducted both aerial and sea operations, expanding efforts to locate FV MOYA and ensure the crew’s safe return.
