Police have officially identified the woman who tragically lost her life during Monday’s Labour Day celebrations as 45-year-old Allissa Chiddick of Martin’s Village.

Chiddick was reportedly attempting to board a trailer truck carrying supporters of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) when she slipped and fell beneath the vehicle’s rear wheels. The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on May 5, near the Millers Beach Bar and Restaurant on Fort Road, as the parade procession moved toward Fort James Beach for the post-march festivities.

According to police, she sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene approximately 90 minutes later, around 5:30 p.m.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has launched an investigation into the fatal incident, and a postmortem examination will be conducted as part of the ongoing probe. Law enforcement is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information that could assist with the investigation to contact the Traffic Department at 462-0125.

Authorities are once again urging members of the public to exercise caution during large gatherings and festive events. Drivers, particularly those operating large vehicles such as trailer trucks, are reminded to implement appropriate safety measures—including protective barriers—to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.
